Parliament Monsoon Session 2023 all set to kick off from July 20

The Monsoon Session of Parliament is all set to begin from July 20, Thursday and will continue till August 17, Thursday. There will be a total of 17 sittings during this session in the parliament. At present, there are 37 bills pending in the Parliament out of which eight of them are listed for consideration and passing in the session and the rest 21 for introduction, consideration and passing.

The Monsoon Session will be held days after the Opposition party meeting in Bengaluru and the current ruling NDA event at Delhi. Both the events were aimed to discuss campaigning strategies and figuring out rallying schedules for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The Modi-government will be introducing 21 bills, including the one which aims to replace the contentious Delhi law and another one to process Digital Personal Data. According to the tentative list released by the Government, the bills that have already been scrutinized by the parliamentary committees and have been listed for passage are:

- The Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill, 2022
- The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023
- The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2022
- The Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill, 2023 and
- The Mediation Bill, 2021.

In addition, other Bills that have been listed and which will be presented before the table include: The National Cooperative University Bill, The National Dental Commission Bill, The National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill, The Drugs, Medical Devices and Cosmetics Bill, The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, The Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, The Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, among others.

The Congress and the Opposition parties are likely to demand a discussion on Manipur crisis, sexual harassment allegations against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the Adani-Hindenburg issue, the alleged misuse of agencies and bringing GST under the purview of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, ̎That the party will also raise issue about the railway safety in view of the horrific Balasore train accident which was side-lined in pursuit of launching of new Vande Bharat trains. ̎

According to the Press Trust of India reports, ̎The session will commence in the old parliament building and later move to the new parliament building.̎ ∎
