On early Thursday, a raid from Israel on the Jenin refugee camp of the occupied West Bank led to the death of nine people. The Palestinian Health Ministry posted on Facebook that along with those killed, twenty others have been injured, four of whom seriously injured during the violence at the refugee camp.

Palestinian Health Minister Mai al-Kaila, said in a statement that the condition in the camp was “very critical" and that Israeli forces were preventing ambulances from reaching the injured. She also said that Israeli forces had “deliberately” used tear gas at a pediatric ward of a hospital.

The Israel Defense Forces described the raid as a “counterterrorism operation.” They said the attack was against members of Islamic Jihad militant group who had a role to play in attacks on Israelis and accused the militant group of attacking first. They reported that six had been killed while another surrendered, they are said reports of other casualties were being “looked into.”

The West Bank has become a target almost daily for Israeli Operations, the tensions have been rising as Israeli forces continue, what they describe, as an anti-terrorism offensive. Some are dubbing 2022 as the deadliest year for the West Bank, as according to statistics by the United Nations, around 150 Palestinians were killed in the West Bank last year. This is the highest figure since the U.N. began keeping systematic records in 2005. ∎
