Heavy Rains and Floods continue to wreak havoc in several parts of the Country

Heavy Rains will continue to shower in many states, ultimately prompting the authorities to take precautionary actions and issuing guidelines regarding closing of schools and colleges temporarily. As several states continue to battle the heavy monsoon rains, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a fresh weather warning for the upcoming days. According to the weather forecast, No relief is expected for states such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha in the days ahead.

The state of Jammu & Kashmir faced heavy landslides leading to the death of eight people including three children on this Wednesday. Roads and houses have been hit by debris. Incessant rains have increased the possibilities of landslides and floods, resulting in the suspension of vehicle on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. In view of the situation, all the roads and services have been blocked for the pilgrims to the Mata Vaishno Devi Temple.

The state of Maharashtra also faced severe rainfall in the past few days. With heavy rains lashing Maharashtra’s Yavatmal, many residential areas were inundated and water entered most of the houses. Locals said that, ̎Over 500 houses have been submerged till now ̎. According to The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a 'red alert' predicting 'heavy to very heavy rainfall' in Palghar district and an 'orange alert' for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts.

It has been continuously raining in Uttarakhand as well for the past days. Incidents of cloudburst have come to fore in many places. In Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, heavy damage has been reported due to cloudbursts leading the Meteorological Department to issue an orange alert for the next few hours. Cloudburst incidents have become more prominent in several locations. Numerous roads, including sections of numerous National Highways, have been washed away as a result of landslides. In Bangapani in the Pithoragarh district, the drain backed up simultaneously due to rain, and a 150-meter stretch of road washed away.

The state of Gujarat has been flooded due to the heavy downpour and continued to be waterlogged including the Gir Somnath district of Gujarat. Six NDRF teams have been deployed in Gir Somnath, Kutch, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli and Rajkot districts amidst the heavy rains and waterlogging. The IMD predicted heavy rains in the month of July.

The water level in the Yamuna River in Delhi near the Old Railway Bridge has been hovering around the danger mark of 205.33 metres for the last few days after heavy rains were reported in the city. Many areas are still affected due to severe waterlogging and floods for more than a week now. ∎
